States Rights
Another major factor for the civil war were states rights. The southren states argued that the states should have more power. This power would allow them to make their own rules for their states, making the rules specifc to their state. The northren states believed that all states should have equal power in government and the constitution should apply to all of the states. That no state should have more power based on the population, the south tried to use this to their advantage because of the number of slaves in each state. The North and South seemed to disagree with everything, resulting in the Southren states Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Flordia, Georgia, Lousiana, Mississppi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virgina all had left the union. After leaving trhe union, everything that had benn worked towards by our four fathers had been falling apart. The country was torn apart.
Jefferson Davis
After a majority of the southern states decided to leave the Union, they made their own constitution and even elected their own president- Jefferson Davis. Davis was a war hero in the west, he was elected to be the first President of the Confederate States. He did not want to be a President and instead be a General, Davis ran a poor army be arguing with the Generals most of the time. He was chosen because of his moderate view on leaving the Union. After the war he was caught and tried for treason.

Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States and was elected for two terms. Abraham was very popular in the north, he strongly disagreed with slavery and tried to make peace with the south. Another thing Abraham did not agree with at all was war, the only reason he went to war with the south was because he wanted to protect the power of the union- or of the nation. Lincoln was most known for being assassinated and his ability to give moving speeches. Also after the war and issuing the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed all slaves in the rebelling states.
The Secession
The secession began when Lincoln was elected to be the 16th President of the United states. Abe strongly was strongly against slavery southern states then soon started leaving the Union. Lincoln tried to make ends meet with the south but it wouldn't work. One after another the Confederate states left the Union to create their own constitution and elect their president. Then war broke out in America
